Digital and Research Infrastructure

CULTED Lab uses digital infrastructure that supports the storage, processing, documentation and analysis of cultural and educational data. This infrastructure enables research activities related to digital heritage, multimedia content, metadata management, immersive applications and intelligent cultural services.

Medium-scale cloud infrastructure with 256GB RAM, 36 cores, NAS 5T storage and 10G Ethernet connectivity.

Workstations for high-precision digitisation and multimedia content processing.

Workstations for digitisation, documentation and the management of international metadata.

Storage and connectivity infrastructure supporting the management, processing and preservation of cultural and research data.

3D Digitisation and Immersive Technologies

The laboratory supports the development and testing of digital cultural applications through equipment and software for 3D digitisation, 3D modelling, virtual reality, augmented reality and immersive cultural experiences.

3D scanning equipment for the digitisation of artefacts, monuments and sites of cultural interest.

Software for 3D modelling and the development of virtual reality environments.

3D color printing infrastructure for prototyping and the production of physical representations of digital models.

AR glasses for the development and pilot testing of mobile and web 3D applications for culture, history and archaeology.

VR headsets for the development and pilot testing of 3D reconstructions and virtual navigation in historical and archaeological sites.

Cultural Repository and Metadata

CULTED Lab supports the documentation, organisation and management of digital cultural content through repository and metadata infrastructures. These resources enable the structured preservation, retrieval and reuse of cultural heritage data for research, education and digital cultural services.

A cultural heritage repository with 25,000 artefacts, interoperable with Europeana and documented using the Europeana Data Model.

Infrastructure for the documentation and management of cultural heritage data using international metadata standards.

Tools and workflows supporting the organisation, preservation and educational use of digital cultural assets.

Planned Equipment Development

The laboratory’s development plan includes the gradual enhancement of its equipment through own resources. Planned upgrades include tools for aerial cultural digitisation, film archive processing, AR/VR applications, artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-performance workstations, 3D scanning and 3D color printing.
